Aftercare Guidelines

It’s time to share my secret recipe for amazing brow results! There are basically two methods and each is dependent upon your skin type: Dry or Oily.

DAY OF PROCEDURE FOR DRY AND OILY SKIN: Gently wipe the area with the provided distilled soaked cotton pad to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this as needed for the full day until oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymph.

DAYS AFTER PROCEDURE FOR DRY SKIN: Wash gently twice daily (morning and night) to remove bacteria and dead skin for seven days. Use soap like Dial, Cetaphil or Neutrogena. (Don't worry....THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!) To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or any exfoliants. DO NOT moisturize.

DAYS AFTER PROCEDURE FOR OILY SKIN: No water, cleansers, cream, makeup or any other products on treated area for ten days!

GENERAL GUIDELINES AFTER PROCEDURE FOR DRY AND OILY SKIN:

DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area
Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color
Use provided blotting paper on treated area to prevent moisture and/or oil build-up
Use a fresh pillowcase
Avoid topical makeup including sunscreen on the area
Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week
Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days
Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days
Avoid swimming, lakes, hot tubs for the first 10 days
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after procedure
Wear a hat when outdoors
No facials, Botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 week

Important note about showering: Limit your showers to 5 minutes so you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet at the very last end of the shower. Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area. For OILY SKIN, DO NOT wet brows while showering.

Call your physician immediately if any signs and symptoms of infection appear. Signs and symptoms of infection include but are not limited to redness, swelling, tenderness of the procedure area, red streaks going from the procedure are towards the heart, elevated body temperature, or purulent drainage from the procedure area

If physician care is required, client will need to notify Joli de Jackie of the problem and resolution by physician. This information will be placed in client’s file.

STAGES DURING HEALING PROCESS

DAY 1: OMG! I’m in love with my new brows. Thank you!

DAYS 2-10: I don’t like this color. It’s too dark!
What you see is about 20-40% darker, bolder and more solid than what your healed result will be. Under the pigment, the skin is red and pigment has been deposited into the layer of skin containing dead skin cell; combined giving the appearance of darker color. There may be minimal swelling. DO NOT HELP IT! Let it peel on its own. To pull the skin off will remove the plugs of dermal pigment as it has not detached itself completely at this point.

DAYS 8-15: Oh no! My brows are scabbing and falling off!
The skin is now in the throes of rapid exfoliation and IF LEFT ALONE, will shed more evenly. The color under the exfoliating skin will continue to appear light until the epidermis takes on its more transparent characteristics.

DAYS 14-21: My brows are gone?!?!?!?
The top layers of skin are shedding and you will see a loss of color. This is normal as the pigment that was deposited superficially will come off with the skin it was embedded into.

DAYS 21-45: Thank God – my brows are coming back. But still looking patchy and uneven!
If there are any blank areas of pigment, this is normal. Any fill-ins and detail work will be done during the Follow Up session. DO NOT EVALUATE RIGHT AFTER EXFOLIATION. It is not even close to what the end result will be as it is very transparent at the time. Color will bloom in 1-3 weeks.

Days 30-90: Mirror, mirror on the wall; who’s brows are the fairest of all...
Now is the time to critique your brows as you have had a full cycle of cellular regeneration in which the tattoo has now become part of the dermis. It is now time to go in for the Follow Up session where all final detail work can be performed.

Because everyone heals differently, don’t be alarmed if your brows do not follow the schedule above exactly.

LONGER TERM CARE

For a LIFETIME after the procedure: SUN EXPOSURE IS THE #1 ENEMY OF YOUR PERMANENT MAKEUP! Avoid exposing the treated areas to the sun or a tanning bed! A tanning bed will ruin your permanent cosmetics in about 5 minutes! If sun or UV exposure is unavoidable, apply a sunscreen with at least a 30SPF to each brow before exposing the treated areas. For extended UV exposure, a hat or visor is highly recommended. Keep products containing Retin-A, Glycolic Acid, or Alpha-Hydroxy Acids a half inch away from your brows at all times, as these products can ruin the integrity of your results. Antacids, anxiety and thyroid medications have been reported as interfering with results by affecting retention or shifting the pigmentation to an undesirable tone. Acid and chemical peels, laser and other rapid skin exfoliation procedures and/or products will cause premature fading. Touch ups are recommended.
